Good evening!
Do you ever have one of those weeks where it feels like its already next month, you can do nothing right, you are under valued and have no support and yet it is only Wednesday? Well that is how it has been this week, and today got so bad I threw my laptop across a table! So when you are feeling this bad there is only one thing to do, hit the gym and hit it hard....
So as soon as I got home, I got changed and walked to my local Gym, forgetting going this early it was more like a youth club than a place of fitness.
I started on the weight machines and couldn't help but laugh as a young girl was telling her friend she was too worried to go ask the trainers for advice on how to lose weight fast.
I stopped mid chest press and said 'I can answer that, nothing! If you want to lose weight it takes time and effort. Eating healthily and exercising, cutting out the crap, crisps chocolate and in my case wine.'
I almost laughed at myself as I was speaking the words that are hinged into my brain but which I find hard to take notice of. I then looked the girl up and down, I am guessing she was probably around 15 or so and had a great body, it wasn't like some of these young girls that are so skinny they look like they need medical help, and she certainly wasn't overweight, she was what I would class a perfect size, and from what I could tell quite muscly. I told her that she didn't need to lose weight but if she wanted to keep nice and toned, it was just regular exercise, she told me that she had no stamina and I told her you just have to build it up slowly, but keep it regular.
I finished up on the chest press and moved onto the pull down thingy (lateral pull down?) and thought to myself that at least she was asking fitness related questions and seemed to be generally interested in the advice and information I was giving her, unlike her friend that was currently sitting next to me on the leg press. She was tapping away at her phone whilst tapping the board with the tips of her toes as if she was tapping along to some music.... very slow music.
Then it was onto the leg curl, whilst listening to another two girls (also tapping away on their phones) whispering to each other, did he see, is he looking, does my hair look OK?... As I left the weights area I commented to the PTs at the desk 'I am sure it must be cheaper to go to a coffee house to gossip and ogle over men...'
Still it was keeping me entertained, and had to be better than the lad who I often see bending over to click in a really heavy weight whilst telling his friend that he really wants to beef up before his holiday abroad, and then proceeds to spend 20 minutes talking about said holiday never once lifting the weight!
I started off on the Cross Trainer, I still hate this machine with a passion, no matter how hard I try, it still hurts my quads and not my glutes. I did manage 10 minutes on level 3-3 making 1.2km.
Then I spent 30 minutes on the bike, at level 5, for the first 10 minutes keeping it between 80 - 85RPM, then I did 10 minutes alternating 30 seconds 75-85, 30 seconds 110-120, then 10 minutes 80 - 85
Then I popped onto the treadmill for 10 minutes, 3 minutes with the incline at 10 and speed at 6, then 2 minutes decline at 3 speed at 6, then 1 minute speed 6 and flat. Then I did 2 lots of 1 minute at speed 10 30 seconds at 6 and then a final minute at 5 cool down.
I then walked home and I felt amazing, all my frustration was left in the gym!
As for the rest of the week, Monday was meant to be a rest day, but I went out and jogged for a mile and walked for about half a mile just to loosen my extremely tight calves from Sunday.
Tuesday was 10 minutes brisk walk, 25 minutes easy effort run and 10 minutes brisk walk, I did this after work, so was tired, it was warm and my calves were still really tight, as well as my feet and ankles were sore. Amazing how a mile sprint can affect you?! Managed 3.43km in the run alone and averaged 7:18, splits 7:22, 7:24, 7:07, 7:12.
Tomorrow should be intervals, but I have a hard day at work, where I am going to be on my feet all day and doing lots of walking round up and down stairs so have decided to swap it with Friday's rest day. Nothing much planned for the weekend, except maybe another long walk on Saturday to check out some more of Rob's ultra route, weather dependent.
So my little running lovelies, that is all for now, and remember if you angry and frustrated, hit it out in the gym, who knows what entertainment awaits you....
Much Love
FBB xx
