As promised yesterday I am back to let you know how my City of London Mile went....
The alarm went off at 5.45am, but being rather tired we didn't make it out of bed until 6.30, and seeing as we were meant to be getting the 7:39 train, and didnt have anything packed and ready we were off to a bad start.
I had porridge with a high 5 nutrition raspberry gel popped in and a cup of tea. I did my usual 4 trips to the toilet with nerves before leaving the house and when we finally set off Rob had left his water and mobile at home so we had to pop back. We missed the train, but there was another just half hour after so not too much of an issue.
Another trip to the toilet on the train, this was bad, I actually think I was more nervous today than on London Marathon Day! We arrived at Liverpool Street and walked the short distance to the start of the race, got our race numbers and put our bag in the baggage stop.
Rob was in wave 4, which was for 6 minutes, his fastest mile before had been 6:34 and I was lucky enough to be right at the finish line to see him run over at 6:11. It was then my turn to warm up and get ready.
I decided to wear the Brooks Vapour 3 that I had been given after attending a Market Research session. I have been wearing them for the last few weeks in training, and although I cant compare to my usual ASICS for long distance yet, I am finding them very comfortable to run in short distance.
I went for a jog around the roads to warm up my legs before being called to the start, then I had a High 5 Nutrition Berry Isogel to give me a bit of a boost. I positioned myself nearish to the front, about 5 deep in or so and awaited the gun.
I slowed a bit to around 9 min/mile on the watch and was already at 3/4 mile but then I came to the last 400 meter stretch which was on a slight incline and I had nothing left in me. I refused to stop but needed to slow down, the last 200 meters were a slight blur but I hit the Finishing line mats and my official mile time is 9:32. I couldn't believe it, 1 minute and 19 seconds better than my previous PB (training last Thursday).
I was so happy and proud of myself, although now I am actually going to have to work harder and keep this new speed going!!
Much Love
FBB
